This section summarizes the ABAQUS installation procedures on a computer that has a locally mounted CD-ROM device. If you are installing ABAQUS on a computer using a remotely mounted CD-ROM device, see “Accessing the installation files from a remotely mounted CD-ROM device,” Section D.1. For a detailed discussion of each installation procedure, see the following sections:
“ABAQUS documentation installation,” Section 2.2
“ABAQUS licensing installation,” Section 2.3
“ABAQUS product installation,” Section 2.4
Check the CD-ROM mount command for the platform on which you are installing ABAQUS. These commands can be found in “Software,” Section A.1, or in “Systems requirements for Version 6.4” listed under Support & ServicesSystems Information on the ABAQUS Home Page.
If you are installing ABAQUS for the first time, create the ABAQUS parent directory. The recommended name for this directory is ABAQUS.
Insert the appropriate CD-ROM in the drive, and issue the CD-ROM mount command (as required).
2.1.1 Installing ABAQUS documentation
ABAQUS online documentation for Version 6.4 is provided in HTML format. You must have write permission in the directory where documentation is installed. Administrator privileges are required on Windows platforms.
To install ABAQUS documentation:
From the disk labeled ABAQUS Documentation, execute the following command:
UNIX platforms
/cdrom_dir/setup
where cdrom_dir is the name used when the CD-ROM was mounted or the directory where the installation files reside.
Windows platforms
cdrom_drive:\setup.exe
where cdrom_drive is the CD-ROM drive.
Follow the instructions in the dialog boxes that appear to complete the documentation installation.
When the documentation installation is complete, you will be provided with a URL that points to your ABAQUS documentation. You must provide this URL during each of the subsequent ABAQUS product installations.
2.1.2 Installing ABAQUS licensing
You must have an ABAQUS Version 6.4 license file to install licensing. Administrator privileges are required on Windows platforms to install and start the license server. Select the licensing installation that you want to perform from the following scenarios:
Install Version 6.4 licensing with an existing Version 6.3 license server running. You must terminate the license server before you install ABAQUS Version 6.4 licensing (see the procedures below).
Replace an existing or expired Version 6.4 license file (see “Updating a license file,” Section 3.2.1).
Configure redundant license servers. You can use the installation procedure to install only the licensing utilities on each of the three license server hosts; you must start the ABAQUS Version 6.4 license server manually (see “Redundant license server configurations,” Section 3.3).
Customize the FLEXlm license installation. If you integrate your ABAQUS license features with other products using the Multiple License File capability in FLEXlm, note that ABAQUS Version 6.4 requires lmgrd 8.2 or higher. In addition, the procedures described in this chapter do not apply to customized license installations.
Use one of the following procedures to terminate the server:
UNIX platforms
Enter the command
abaqus_dir/License/lmdown -c @license_server_host -vendor ABAQUSLM
where abaqus_dir is the ABAQUS parent directory, and license_server_host is the hostname of the license server.
Verify that the server has been stopped by running the command
abaqus_dir/License/lmstat -c @license_server_host
Verify that no ABAQUSLM vendor daemons are reported. If no vendor daemons are reported, an error message may appear.
Windows platforms
In addition to terminating the license server, you must remove licensing as a Windows service.
From the Start menu, select ProgramsABAQUS 6.3-nLicensing, where n refers to the ABAQUS version.
The LMTOOLS dialog box appears.
Verify Configuration using Services is enabled on the Service/License File tabbed page.
Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab, select the ABAQUS Version 6.3 license server, and click Stop Server.
Select the Config Services tab, select the ABAQUS Version 6.3 license server, and click Remove Service.
Select FileExit to close the LMTOOLS dialog box.
To install ABAQUS Version 6.4 licensing:
From the disk labeled ABAQUS Licensing and Products, execute the following command:
UNIX platforms
/cdrom_dir/setup
where cdrom_dir is the name used when the CD-ROM was mounted or the directory where the installation files reside.
Windows platforms
cdrom_drive:\setup.exe
where cdrom_drive is the CD-ROM drive.
Follow the instructions in the dialog boxes that appear to complete the licensing installation.
2.1.3 Installing ABAQUS products
You must have an ABAQUS Version 6.4 network license server installed and running on your network to install ABAQUS products. You will be asked to provide the following information relating to the documentation and licensing installations:
The hostname or IP address of your license server(s) (REQUIRED).
The URL for ABAQUS documentation (optional, but recommended). If you did not install ABAQUS documentation before products or if you do not specify the URL, you must perform additional steps to provide access to the documentation (see “Setting the documentation URL after installation,” Section C.2).
To install ABAQUS products:
From the disk labeled ABAQUS Licensing and Products, execute the following command:
UNIX platforms
/cdrom_dir/setup
where cdrom_dir is the name used when the CD-ROM was mounted or the directory where the installation files reside.
Windows platforms
cdrom_drive:\setup.exe
where cdrom_drive is the CD-ROM drive.
