Problem:
Is it possible to use an external editor, such as WordPad or Notepad to enter and edit text on a drawing? Solution:
Yes it is, but you will need to do some customization to get it to work. The steps below will describe how to do this customization. These instructions only apply to the new User Interface and don't apply to the Classic UI.
1.) In ME10, Use the Tools -> Customize -> Customize Layout… menu choice and then select the Toolbar Items tab.
2.) In the category section, select the "Text" category and all the commands associated with that category will be displayed.
3.) Select the "Edit Text" Caption and then press the Edit… button. Change the "On Action" item to read "EDIT_TEXT" without the double quotes and press the OK button and you will be returned to the Customize dialog box.
5.) Select the "Enter Text…" Caption and then press the Edit… button. Change the "On Action" item to read "TEXT SCREEN" without the double quotes and press the OK button and you will be returned to the Customize dialog box.
7.) Press Close on the Customize dialog and you will be returned to Drafting.
8.) Restart OSD Drafting and now Notepad will now be used to edit drawing text in ME10. When exiting Notepad after entering or editing drawing text, Notepad will ask you if you "Do you want to save the changes?" You will always need to answer this question Yes if you want the new text to come into Drafting.
9.) If you want to use another editor such as Wordpad, or UlteaEdit32, then you will need to edit the ME10.INI file which is located in the same directory as ME10F.EXE and ME10.EXE
Add a line for the MEEDITOR like one of the two examples below:
MEEDITOR=uedit32
OR
MEEDITOR=C:\Program Files\WindowsNT\Accessories\wordpad.exe
The path to these executables may be different on your system. After setting this, the next time OSDD is started, you will able to use the editor that you specified to enter and edit drawing text.
Please note that You will need to clean up the temporary files that the editor creates. These files are created in the METMPDIR. The following command will tell you what directory ME10 is using for the METMPDIR
display (getenv ('METMPDIR'))
