Subject: What can users expect from NX7 and NX7.5
anwort 1:
NX7 ... quality release of NX6
no fancy additions, only bug fixes
needs Tc UA
NX7.5 ... beta testing starting in November
new features and additions
many CAM enhancements for multi-axis milling and impeller machining
kurz drauf anwort 2:
That's not quite accurate...
There are some significant enhancements to Synchronous Modeling, some of
which also apply to traditional Feature modeling as well, such as some more
efficient selection of closed boundaries for Extrude and Revolve.
There's also more options available to automatically manage sketches and
Datums when using them during the creation of models.
Several enhancements were made to Shape Studio making it easier to make
edits as well as the get feedback about the impact of those edits on your
model.
In Drafting the most significant enhancement was a clean-up of the display
of weld symbols so that they more closely comply with the various standards
that NX supports.
Sheet Metal includes a couple of significant improvements that have been
requested recently.
Some limited but still significant changes in CAM including a new toolpath
generation scheme which will truly leverage for the first time the extra
computing resources available when running NX on multi-core and multi-CPU
workstations.
But the area where the most work was done was with the CAE modules including
many projects covering both new and improved FEM and FEA features and
applications.
And last but not least, NX 7.0 will also introduce something called HD3D,
which is a new approach to sharing and linking additional data, both visual
and non-visual, into your models and assemblies so that you can use your
actual design models as a 'gateway' or like a 'browser' to allow quick and
easy access to this other data which could be of value to the designers and
engineers or people simply using NX to review designs and verify project
status, but would like to do it in the context of an actual session of NX.
Now this is not meant to replace, but rather to leverage other systems which
you may have in place which is already collecting and organizing this data,
such as TeamCenter. But this will also help make it easier to access
information already being stored in your models and assemblies, but which
have depended on the in past only simple text-based or navigator based
access to the data, but which now can be accessed directly on the
model/assemblies where it applies and where it will be easiest to relate to.
And as part of this, there will many opportunities to use this with
something like CheckMate to provide more useful feedback and validation of
your models, but in such a way where it will be easier to find and query the
results and status since they can be linked visually to the actual parts of
your design as you see them in an NX session.
However, that being said, NX 7.0 is in all honesty, not as large a release
as say was NX 5.0 or NX 6.0 in terms of the depth and breadth of projects
nor in the scope of the changes made in various areas. And it is true that
much of our time was spent on quality issues, both in terms of fixing
reported problems, as well as in updating some of the internal architectural
aspects of NX to make it easier to maintain and support in the future. Also
several longer terms efforts were begun with groundwork and foundations
being put into place which will be needed before some larger and more
strategic projects could be implemented in NX 7.5 and other future releases.
So all in all, while the 'What's New' may feel a little light, there was
still a lot of work undertaken for this release, just that much of it will
not be fully realized until next year when NX 7.5 is released, which will
indeed be a very significant release.
