Hello people, I need to transform a set of measurement points under IGES into an actual solid body. Does anyone know how to do that. I have attached a .prt file. Hello Kevin. Let's try it in english . Don't get me wrong. But this board is made for people who request help to help themselfs. You have to do your job at your own. There are two ways to transform points into models: 1. Save the points in a textfile format. Then you can put them into NX as surface (online help "Inputting Points from a File"). 2. Just connect the points in your prt file with e.g. "studio spline" in each section plane (what you think it is). And now you can build up a 3D-model with e.g. "through curves" feature. The problem with your prt file is: there are no such uniform section planes. Every point was measured on a different level. So you have to handle 3D-splines with the "through curves" feature. I don't think you'll get a good result with this weak input. best regards Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |

Thanks for your input, I will try them. I have just started working with Unigraphics since this week and everything is new for me. I am using Unigraphics NX6 however in German version, my supervisor can't seem to change it to English. Sorry for my bad German, I am still learning Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |

Hello again. You can't import the points as spline. If you have the textfile including the coordinates of the points, you can only import them as surface. Either you try bbking's way (Insert->Surface->Points From Cloud | from textfile or selecting points in the model) or you try building up single sections (connecting the points from your prt file with the studio spline). Don't know the difference between the results. But bbking's way is much easier. And of cause, you have to trim and adjust the result of both ways. Hello Kevin. I don't know if its necessary to buy an expensive Software to do that simple job. Just build up a suitable measurment on the CMM. E.g. a few simple circle measurments on defined z-levels. They will show you each diamter and it's midpoint coordinates (maybe additionally the roundness). But think about the sphere compensation if you use an tactile CMM. Just a hint from me: Never, really never trust a CMM result if you don't know how a CMM works or not having verified the program. IMHO 3D measuring is suitable for freeform shapes or complicated geometries. Your problem is neither... best regards Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |

Actually we do have the license and software already installed in our company. The program can calculate the deviation between actual points and the generated best fit geometry. I appreciate all of your assistance. Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |

I've forgotten to ask: What is the aim of the task? If you import points in NX, the result will be freeform shapes. But an ideal cone is a standard geometry. So, do you really need the geometry of the measured part? If yes: why are there only such a few points? Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |

The aim of the task is to see the conformity of the measured points to the master model. We have some problems with detachment of the housing, so we would want to see whether any deviations is within tolerance. Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |

So, i don't think it makes any sense to generate a surface from your points. What you want is to compare ideal cone (Master Model) and actual cone. If you use that Software IMHO you won't get that result. Because you wrote: Zitat: Original erstellt von kevinloh: There is a software that manage to create a cone shaped profile with best fit amongst the measurement points. The software is GOM Inspection PRO
If i got you right, the software calculates in ideal cone from your actual points. And then it compares these measured points to the calculated cone. I would say its something like "standard variance" or a kind of form tolerance. But what you need is the deviation to your master-model. 1. Most comfotable: Maybe the Software is able to compare measured point to the master-model (step or iges) 2. Put the measured points part file into the master model and compare the most interesting points. But both possibilities need correct positioning and orientating of actual part and model. That is exactly right, the software is able to calculate the minimum, maximum deviation and also the deviation at every point with respect to the master model. It is a very powerful software indeed. Eine Antwort auf diesen Beitrag verfassen (mit Zitat/Zitat des Beitrags) IP |
