can we installed smarteam foundation DB and others services or servers o n an wmware esx environment. If yes, feel free for your comments.

Hi,

it's no problem to use vmware based smarteam foundation services. Some of our customers still work on it.
Only the LUM service can't install inside a vmware. There is no support from IBM for it.

Hi,

We have SmarTeam-Foundation and LUM running on Win2K-Server inside VMWare. The Vault-Share is on a Linux Samba server and the DB is Oracle on Linux.

There might be a performance penalty as all files are exchanged trough the Foundation server during lifecycle operations.

Maybe there is no support from IBM for LUM, but it works...

How do you make LUM up and running on VMWare ??

I always get an error when running i4target.exe

Hi,

Lum works fine in VMware until LUM4.6.5. There we get the right traget ID. With later releases it is like a game :-). In some test configuration we get the right ID in some other not.
After I read that VMware isn't supported by IBM we install LUM only on nativ systems.

Maybe it depends on the VMWare networking type. We use a bridged setupt where the virtual machine has its own IP address.

As you say Christian, I will follow the IBM recommandation and install the LUM server on native system.

PhimUoB, Do you have a support for your Smarteam installation on Wmware or do you have installed SMT with your feeling. Apparently, DS provide no support for the moment with WMware and we will have probably to resign on formal installation.

Anyway, it's look still open! Thanks for your answer

I run LUM 4.6.8.

My VMWare installation have it's own IP Address and a MAC address.

When I run I4target.exe -v, I get this output :

Hello!

I found following information at http://www.ibm.com/software/applications/plm/support/

A Windows system with VMware installed cannot be configured as a LUM license server on LUM 4.6.7 and higher. This is by design, for security reasons, because the targetid from a virtual machine is not unique.

A client machine running VMware should be able to acquire concurrent licenses that have been installed on a non-virtual LUM license server.
