PRODUCT: UG SUBJECT: Can plot a disk file from DOS, but can't send to network printer in UG SUBMITTED BY: STEVE LODER SUBMITTED DATE: 09/04/98 IR #: 0697117 DOCUMENT ID: 001-0697117 PLATFORM: INTEL, AXP OPERATING SYSTEM: WNT OS VERSION: 4.0 PRODUCT VERSION: V11.1 AND HIGHER =============================================================================== HARDWARE/SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION ------------------------------- Unigraphics V11.1 and higher Windows NT V4.0 SYMPTOM/PROBLEM --------------- Use this solution only if: 1. You are using Windows NT 2. You are not able to plot to a network printer from Unigraphics. 3. You are able to plot to disk file from Unigraphics and send the plot to the network plotter from DOS using the command: $ print /d:\\remotenode\share SOLUTION/WORKAROUND ------------------- 1. Click on 'Start --> Settings --> Printers'. 2. Double-click the 'Add Printer' icon; this will bring up the Add Printer Wizard. 3. Select 'My Computer', so that you can set up the system queue locally. Click the Next button. 4. Click the 'Add Port' button. Highlight 'LPR Port', and click on 'New Port'. If 'LPR Port' is not an available option, install the 'Microsoft TCP/IP Printing' service; this is done by selecting; Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Network --> Services click on the 'Add' button. Select 'Microsoft TCP/IP Printing' from the men and press OK when it is done. You will need to REBOOT after installing this service. When you return to the 'Add LPR compatible printer' window, you will now see the option for LPR Port. 5. The 'Add LPR compatible printer' box appears; in the first field, add the name (or ip address) of the server that the print device is attached to. In the second field, add the name of the printer or print queue that is on the server. Click OK. If you are setting up the port for a HP JetDirect printer, enter the TCP/IP address of the printer in the first field. In the second field enter raw1 for an internal HP JetDirect adapter; if you have an external HP JetDirect print server device, use raw1, raw2, or raw3 -- depending on whether the HP JetDirect port that the printer is connected to is port 1, 2, or 3. 6. Click on 'Close' in the Printer Ports window. You will then see that the port you created has a check mark next to it in the 'Add Printer Wizard' window. 7. Click Next and select the applicable Manufacturer and Printer. Click Next. At this point, you may need to follow the prompts to install the driver if it is not already installed. 8. Keep the existing driver if it is already installed. Click Next. 9. Enter the name you would like the printer to be known by. We recommend that you select a name in all lower-case characters. Click Next. 10. Share the printer and make sure the share name is in lower-case. 11. Print a test page to make sure that the queue works correctly. Now follow the normal steps in setting up a UG plot queue using PQMGR. IMPORTANT: Make sure that in your Unigraphics plot queue settings, that the system queue name is set to \\localnodename\sharename (for example \\nt1\hplaser).
