Issue
You want to import Mechanical Desktop parts as individual objects into 3D Studio VIZ or 3D Studio MAX.
Solution
To export the parts from Mechanical Desktop
Open the assembly in Mechanical Desktop.
Use the AMACISOUT command to export the components you want from the assembly to an ACIS (SAT) file, and then exit Mechanical Desktop.
Start AutoCAD from the Mechanical Desktop program group.
In a new drawing, use ACISIN to import the ACIS file create in step 2, and then save the drawing (DWG) file.
To import the parts into 3D Studio VIZ as individual objects
Start 3D Studio VIZ.
From the Insert menu, choose AutoCAD DWG.
In the Select File to Import dialog box, browse to the DWG file created in the previous procedure, select it and choose Open.
In the DWG Import dialog box, choose to either merge or completely replace the current design.
In the Import AutoCAD DWG File dialog box, set the following options.
Under Derive Objects By, select the Entity option.
Under General Options, clear the Convert to single objects option and the Group common objects option.
Choose OK to import the solids as individual objects.
To import the parts into 3D Studio MAX as individual objects
Start 3D Studio MAX.
From the File menu, choose Import.
In the Select File to Import dialog box, browse to the DWG file created in the first procedure, select it and choose Open.
In the DWG Import dialog box, choose to either merge or completely replace the current design.
In the Import AutoCAD DWG File dialog box, set the following options:
Under Derive Objects By, select the Entity option.
Under General Options, clear the Convert to single objects option and the Group common objects option.
Choose OK to import the solids as individual objects.
